About Me

Hello, I’m Bridget. In 2006, at the age of 71, I developed Age Related Macular Degeneration in my left eye and three years later in my right eye.  I have lost most central vision, but with the support of friends and family I keep up with the latest medical treatment and technology and have adapted to other new and encouraging ways of living with Visual Impairment.

I’m enjoying blogging about VI and sharing experiences of travelling, everyday life, audio books, technology, art, cinema and more.

I welcome comments on my individual blog posts and hope you will be able to join the conversation there. If you would like to get in touch on a more general matter, please use my Contact Form.

Hi Bridget, I’ve found you! I shall enjoy reading your entries – you could be talking about my Mum re the ‘not switching on my mobile’ issue! I’ve got a blog here too, but I’m not posting anything at the moment. Hope to see you soon at a meet-up or elsewhere! Jen x

    Hi Bridget – found you!

Into the world of blogs eh? Hope it works well for you.

I’ve just finished reading “Cranford” on my Kobo Touch – very useful for changing the text size when the eyes are tired or struggling. Heard that the Kindle works better in bright light, or even no light at all, so would be interested to hear what you think.

    I’ve found you, too!

Maybe not relevant, but one of my main bugbears about portable technology is remembering to charge them. The spaghetti of wires soon mounts up amd threatens to strangle me!

  5. Hello from Weebly!

There is a member of staff at PC Pro who is going through the same issues and they have interesting articles about how technology can help – my husband has been looking into it for his Grandad. http://www.pcpro.co.uk/features/375148/the-fight-to-see-my-pc

  6. Hallo Bridget. Very interested to read your blog and congratulations on keeping it going. Have you heard about the Birmingham Talking Newspaper? We’d love to be able to share your posts with some of our listeners with your permission. We can also set you up with a Talking Newspaper too if you are interested.

  7. Great blog you have here! 🙂 Thank you very much for visiting mine. 🙂

I found your blog via Liz Dexter’s Libro blog. I told my friend Dave about it. He has poor eyesight and was interested. By the way, when I pasted the blog description (at the top of your blog page) into an email, the word “accessibility” was flagged: it’s missing an i.

  9. Good to hear from you Steve and thanks for passing my blog on to your VI friend. I couldn’t manage this blog without the help of Liz and Matthew who frequntly act as my eyes(and brain!) Will alter the accessibility flag….. for pointing it out.

I love hearing from my readers - do please leave a comment!
